Three Great Books For Caregiver Warriors!

I love to read and I would like to share a few wonderful books that I found interesting, helpful and inspirational.  The first, Creating Moments of Joy Along the Alzheimer’s Journey by Jolene Brackey is a wonderfully insightful book about the experience of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. Simple to read and easy to digest, it is packed with practical suggestions and valuable information. She shows us how humor, compassion, and empathy not only for our loved ones but for ourselves can make our journey full of joy and healing. Right up my alley! The second book, Shelved, A Memoir of Aging in America by Sue Matthews Petrovski is a down to earth, honest and personal take on aging in America. We travel with her as she bravely moves to a senior residence and describes her challenges and joys of living in her 80’s. Thoughtfully written, we are treated to a good look at elder care in America and how to live an examined life as we age. Finally, the third book In Sickness and in Health by Ben Mattlin, is a fascinating look at successful “interabled” couples who face unique challenges as one partner with disabilities is cared for by the other. Questioning why these couples are considered either tragic or noble, he searches for the real reason their relationships work. He uncovers secrets to happy relationships that grow from truth, intimacy, and kindness to one another.  All three books, while very different from each other, struck a chord for me and gave me hours of pleasure, opening my world to new places, people, and wonderful messages. All are available on Amazon. I’d love to hear your reactions to these three wonderful books!
